How to Specify the Right Concrete Soffit Insulation Fixings
Concrete soffit insulation is commonly installed in underground car parks, basements, service areas and other exposed structural environments.
Although the application may appear straightforward, incorrect fixing selection or installation can lead to damaged insulation, insufficient embedment, poor appearance or reduced system performance.
The Evolution Soffit Insulation Fixing Guide has been created to help specifiers, contractors and installers make a more informed product choice.

What should be considered?
The correct fixing depends on more than the thickness of the insulation board. Important factors include:
The type and condition of the concrete substrate.
The thickness and density of the insulation.
The required embedment depth.
The fixing length.
The required fixing pattern and spacing.
Edge distances and installation tolerances.
The environmental and corrosion conditions.
The recommendations of the insulation manufacturer.
These factors should be assessed before installation begins.
Selecting the correct fixing length
A suitable fixing must pass through the insulation and achieve the required embedment into the concrete substrate.
Choosing a fixing based only on the insulation thickness can result in inadequate embedment. Conversely, using an unnecessarily long fixing can increase installation time and cost without providing a meaningful benefit.
The Evolution ICS range is available in multiple lengths to accommodate different insulation build-ups and project requirements.

Bearing area matters
The fixing head must provide sufficient bearing area to hold the insulation securely against the soffit.
If the bearing area is too small for the chosen insulation material, the board may pull over the fixing head even when the fixing remains secure in the concrete.
The insulation density, fixing arrangement and manufacturer’s guidance should therefore be considered alongside the fixing’s pull-out performance.
Correct installation supports consistent performance
The fixing should be installed square to the substrate and driven until the head sits securely against the insulation surface.
Overdriving can compress or damage the insulation, while underdriving can leave the board inadequately supported. Hole depth, drilling method and substrate condition should also be checked before installation.
